Bollywood actor Aamir Khan celebrated Lagaan’s Silver Jubilee at the London Indian Film Festival (LIFF), where he reunited with his co-star Rachel Shelley. Shelley, who played British woman Elizabeth Russell helping Aamir's Bhuvan in the film, later shared pictures from the event on social media. Their reunion left fans nostalgic about the film as it recently completed 25 years.

Shelley posted a series of photographs from the London Indian Film Festival this week on Instagram. In the pictures, she and Aamir are seen posing for the cameras on the red carpet and sharing a side hug. Aamir kept his look casual in a blue T-shirt and matching jeans, while Shelley wore a white dress.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan, Lagaan was released in 2001. Set during British colonial rule, the sports drama follows a group of villagers who challenge British officers to a game of cricket to avoid paying oppressive taxes, or lagaan.

Shelley played Elizabeth Russell, the British woman who secretly teaches the villagers the rules of cricket and supports their fight against injustice. The film was both a critical and commercial success and remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated titles, while also helping popularize the sports drama genre in the country.

Starring Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh and an ensemble cast, the film received acclaim for its storytelling,  A R Rahman’s music and its performances. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
