Filmmaker Christopher Nolan launched 'The Odyssey' in Mumbai on July 10, opening the film's India premiere alongside actors Tom Holland and Matt Damon. The three addressed the audience and thanked viewers for the warm reception.

In one of the videos, Holland's car was seen leaving the airport, though fans were unable to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood star. In another image, he was seen greeting and waving at the paparazzi before making his way into the hotel.

Nolan said he had wanted to bring one of his films to India for many years. Holland praised the energy of Indian moviegoers, while Damon said the response meant a great deal because this was the first audience to watch the film after an earlier premiere for family and friends.

Speaking at the event, Nolan told the audience, "This is not the first time I've been in Mumbai, but it is the first time I've had a chance to launch a film here. So you are amongst the first audiences in the world to see this film." He then added, "Just a quick, who was better, Matt or Tom? They are both fantastic."

Nolan also thanked the audience for turning up and said it was always a thrill to be in India. He said he had visited the country twice before and that every visit had been special. He also said he had long wanted to launch one of his films here and watch it with Indian audiences, whom he described as some of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable cinematic audiences in the world.

Written and directed by Nolan, 'The Odyssey' is an adaptation of Homer's Greek epic. It follows Odysseus, played by Damon, as he makes a dangerous journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The ensemble cast includes Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o and Samantha Morton. The film is produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas under their banner Syncopy.

Nolan's film passes without cuts in India

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' reportedly received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and passed the censors in India without a single cut. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 17.

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, no dialogue or scene has been modified or tweaked, which means audiences in India are set to watch the same cut as the rest of the world, provided the studio has not undertaken any self-censorship in India.

With an ‘A’ certificate, the film will be restricted to viewers aged 18 and above. The makers received the censor certificate on July 9, and the film’s listed runtime is 172.33 minutes, or 2 hours, 52 minutes and 33 seconds.
