New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan amid speculation over a reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers, an India Today report said.
The meeting came two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the President. The developments have drawn attention as the BJP has not renominated some ministers to the Rajya Sabha and has given some others key organizational roles in their states.
Veteran BJP leader from Kerala, George Kurian, recently resigned from the council of ministers after his Rajya Sabha term expired. The 65-year-old was Minister of State for Minority Affairs and also for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh, whose Rajya Sabha term also ended on June 21, has also not been renominated by the BJP to the Upper House. Singh, who had been a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan since August 2024, also holds charge as Minister of State for Food Processing Industries.
There has been no expansion or reshuffle since the BJP-led NDA government returned to power for a third consecutive time in June 2024. The organizational reshuffle will be closely watched as the BJP prepares for the next round of polls, including the 2027 assembly, Presidential, and the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
