ISRAEL | FEBRUARY 4, 2025

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu became the first world leader to meet US President Donald Trump after the latter assumed office. In his meeting with Netanyahu on February 4, Trump extended his full support as he revealed his plans to take over Gaza. After the meeting, Netanyahu said he and Trump “are working in full cooperation and coordination” on Gaza and added that "the gates of hell will be open" if all Israeli hostages with Hamas are not freed.

US President Donald Trump met Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for the first time this month. Ishiba said Trump had "recognized" Japan's huge investment in the US and the American jobs that it creates. Japan had the highest foreign direct investment in the US in 2023 at $783.3 billion, followed by Canada and Germany, according to the most recent US Commerce Department data.

Trump met Jordan King Abdullah II, who became the first Arab leader to meet Donald Trump at the White House. The King informed the US President that his country is prepared to take in 2,000 Palestinian children, including those who are ill or suffering from cancer, from the war-torn Gaza region in the Middle East.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the fourth world leader to visit Trump in the White House since the start of his second term. The two leaders praised their strong bond and hoped for stronger ties and trade deals. Both leaders set a new target - "Mission 500" - to increase bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. Trump announced that the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai attack convict Tahawwur Rana to India has been approved.
