New Delhi: Praising India’s diplomatic engagement amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, Dr Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi held multiple productive conversations with the Iranian leadership and lauded the Indian people for their warmth and goodwill.

Responding to a question on India’s role during the US-Iran conflict, Ilahi said that PM Modi had spoken with Iran’s president “three times or more,” describing the discussions as “very good.”

He added that India’s External Affairs Minister had also held several successful talks with his Iranian counterpart. Speaking emotionally, Ilahi praised Indians, calling them “extraordinary people,” and said he struggled to find words to express his admiration for them.

In an interview with the Indian media, Ilahi said India’s diplomatic strength positions it well to contribute more actively in easing tensions. “The Indian diplomacy is very good, and they can also play more role in this issue,” he said.

Reiterating Tehran’s position, Ilahi said Iran had no intention of harming civilians or destabilizing neighboring Arab nations. He expressed hope that Iran’s neighbors would better understand Tehran’s position and reiterated Iran’s desire for peaceful and constructive relations across the region.
