The global technology community is mourning the death of Indian-origin Microsoft veteran Soma Somasegar, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59. His death was confirmed by Seattle-based venture capital firm Madrona Venture Group, where he had served as Managing Director for more than a decade.
Born in Puducherry, Somasegar — widely known in the tech industry as “Soma” — built a distinguished career spanning nearly 27 years at Microsoft before transitioning into venture capital in 2015.
Technology leaders and former colleagues remembered Somasegar as a humble leader, visionary technologist, and generous mentor who influenced generations of developers and startup founders.
