Lincoln, Neb:  In a historic moment on December 6, a bust of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in the Capitol.

The government of India gifted the state of Nebraska a bust of Mahatma Gandhi. According to both governments, it is the first time India gifted a bust of Gandhi to be placed in a state capitol.

During the program in the governor’s mansion, Pillen said he sees Gandhi’s values in the values Nebraska has.

“Mahatma Gandhi’s presence has emanated across Nebraska,” Pillen said. “We’re about love, we’re about life and we’re about peace, and we’re about taking care of each other.”

The governor also proclaimed Dec 6 as the Day of Remembrance for Mahatma Gandhi.

The Consulate General of India in Seattle hopes on Oct. 2, Gandhi ji’s birthday, Indian Americans gather around the bust to honor and remember him.

The bust will be available for all to see upon request and during tours of the Capitol. (News Courtesy: www.1011now.com)
