New York: Vaibhav Taneja, the Indian-origin Chief Financial Officer of Tesla, has been named treasurer of the America Party—Elon Musk’s newly launched political platform aimed at disrupting the US two-party system. The party’s formation was revealed in official documents filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), following Musk’s public rift with President Donald Trump and the Republican Party over the so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
The FEC filing lists the America Party’s headquarters at 1 Rocker Road in Hawthorne, California. Elon Musk is identified as the party’s sole candidate, while Taneja is named both treasurer and custodian of records. A Texas address is associated with Taneja in the paperwork, which has since circulated widely on social media.
He originally joined Tesla in 2017 following its acquisition of SolarCity, where he had been serving in various finance and accounting roles since March 2016.
At Tesla, Taneja has held several senior positions, including Chief Accounting Officer, Corporate Controller, and Assistant Corporate Controller between February 2017 and May 2018. His steady rise within the company reflects both his deep financial expertise and the trust placed in him by CEO Elon Musk.
Before joining Tesla, Taneja spent nearly 17 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he advised major corporations on financial strategy, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
