Vedic Heritage Inc. (VHI) is delighted to continue its landmark annual Indian classical music festival on October 19th,2024 at its prestigious Pandit Jasraj Auditorium at their Ashram on 111 Jerusalem Avenue, Hempstead, New York 11550.
Vedic Heritage Inc (VHI) was founded by Anant Sri Vibhusit Pratham Parvatyacharya GuruMaa Jyotishanand Saraswati in 1979 to promote Vedic values, spiritualism, academia, and culture in the US and abroad. GuruMaa’s devotion to Hanumanji paved Her path to the conceptualization of Vedic Heritage, Inc to fulfill the spiritual and cultural needs of the Indian American community. One of its most renowned events is the Annual Dipawali Classical Music & Arts Festival which is a celebration of Indian Classical Music and Dance, held in October / November annually for the past over 35 years. This festival is celebrated at its premises in Hempstead, NY at their “Pandit Jasraj Auditorium” and has hosted the most prominent luminaries of the Indian Classical Music and Dance forms.
Such doyens like Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Girija Devi, Ashwini Bhide in Indian Classical vocal music; Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt.Shivkumar Sharma, Pt, Shashank, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Shahid Parvez, L.Subramaniam, Ustad Bismilla Khan, Pt. Vikku Vinayak, Rimpa Siva in Indian Classical instrumental and Kelucharan Mahapatra, Sonal Mansingh, Mallika Sarabhai, Sudha Chandra, Madhavi Mudgal in Classical Dance forms have been performed over the years. This annual event was initiated by Her Holiness Anant Vibhusit Pratham Parvatyacharya GuruMaa Jyotishanand Saraswati in 1982 and has brought the best classical musicians and dancers to New York ever since.
This year, on October 19th, the organization has acclaimed Vocalist Vidhushi Kaushiki Chakraborty and her group. Kaushikiji’s prowess as a khayal singer is well known, but she is adept at singing other ‘light classical’ genres like Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti, Bhajan etc. Whatever her chosen form, her singing is characterized by a fine balance of virtuosity, intellectual rigor and aesthetic sensibility. Kaushiki has recorded many albums and has received several prestigious awards, including the Jadubhatta Award, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar (SangeetNatak Academy Award by the Government of India) in 2012, the BBC award for Outstanding Achievement in 2005 for the album “Pure”, the GIMA award for her album “Yatra 2” in 2012, Mirchi Music Award for the album “Yatra 2” in 2013, Aditya Birla Kala Kiran Award in 2013 and Bobby Sethi Music Award in 2015.
She has also received "Shera Bangali Samman 2017" by ABP ANANDA. Recently, she has received "West Bengal Government Sangeet Maha Samman Award 2019" by the honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, and Nari Shakti Puraskar 2019 by Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India.
The Master of Ceremony will be Ms. Renu Jain. The program will begin sharp at 5 pm followed by a Gala Dinner for FundRaising for the temple’s Brick by Brick(Renovation) Project. Music has no boundaries, no religion and no caste.
