Influential Queens Elected Officials, AM Cruz and CM Krishnan, Endorse Rep. Meng’s re‑election campaign

Queens, NY: Today, Representative Grace Meng received the endorsement of two powerful progressive elected officials: New York City Councilmember Shekar Krishnan and New York State Assemblymember Catalina Cruz. Their endorsements emphasize the trust Meng has built with New Yorkers by advocating for growth and prosperity in her community and beyond.

Assemblymember Cruz grew up as a DREAMer in the United States before being elected to represent Corona, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Rego Park, and Middle Village in Albany. She is a tireless advocate for working families, immigrant rights, and social support programs that uplift communities. Cruz has helped pass some of the most progressive legislation New York has seen in decades and co-sponsored over 400 bills that address discrimination, small business, and immigration across New York State.

"Grace is a first-generation American and has been an incredible partner in fighting for immigrant protections and rights from Washington,” said Assemblymember Cruz. “Right now, our community needs an unwavering ally who does not compromise when it comes to their constituents, regardless of where they or their families were born. I am proud to stand by Rep. Meng as she seeks re-election.”

“Catalina Cruz’s advocacy stems from her own experiences growing up in Queens, giving her a unique insight into the issues her constituents face and enabling her to serve her district with unmatched compassion,” said Rep. Meng. “Her commitment to this community is what drives her, why she fights for accessibility and equity for all New Yorkers. I am proud to have her support as I continue to advocate for justice and opportunities in Congress.”

Councilmember Krishnan, a long-time community activist and civil rights attorney, has been a leading voice on housing, healthcare, working families, and government accountability while representing Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Woodside. Previously, he was the Chair of the Committee on Parks and Recreation, and dedicated himself to expanding public greenery, safe play streets, and improving Queens’ public spaces for all New Yorkers to enjoy. Now, as the current Chair of the Committee on Oversight and Investigations, he is committed to delivering an affordable and fair city for New Yorkers, including rooting out corruption and holding greedy corporations and landlords accountable.

“There is no one more committed to ensuring Queens’ incredibly diverse community is fairly treated and protected,” said Councilmember Krishnan. “I have had the privilege to partner with the Representative on a number of issues and projects, from tackling discriminatory practices to revitalizing Queens’ beauty and making our public spaces truly serve the public. I’m excited to keep working with Congresswoman Meng for years to come.”

“Shekar Krishnan’s dedication to equality and justice for all is truly exceptional, and he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the values that make this city truly great,” said Rep. Meng. “I am honored to have his support of another lifeline Queens resident in this race, and to continue fighting to uplift our community and expand opportunity for all New Yorkers on the local and federal level.”

Councilmember Krishnan’s and Assemblymember Cruz’ endorsements represent a growing coalition of progressive leadership from across New York coming together to support Rep. Meng, an effective and long-time ally in Washington.
