New York, NY: NYC Health + Hospitals announced Alina Moran, MPA, FACHE, FAB, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. For Moran, this appointment marks a homecoming, both to the hospital where she once served as Chief Financial Officer and to the city where her story began. The daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants, she was born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, the very hospital she would later lead as CEO. Her career with the health care system has spanned over two decades, including roles as Assistant Vice President for Managed Care and Chief Patient Growth Officer. Most recently, Moran worked in California as a strategist at Samaritan, a digital health service for people experiencing homelessness, and as CEO of Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center. She begins at Elmhurst Hospital on February 16.

“Congratulations to Alina Moran on her appointment as CEO of Elmhurst Hospital,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Dr. Helen Arteaga. “Serving Elmhurst Hospital as its Chief Executive Officer was the honor of a lifetime, and I am thrilled that Alina Moran is returning to deliver world-class patient-centered care to one of our city’s most remarkable and diverse communities.”

“Alina Moran has a deep track record of enhancing quality care and a lifelong commitment to nonprofit healthcare,” said NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD. “We are grateful to have her back at NYC Health + Hospitals.”

“I am thrilled to return to Elmhurst Hospital, a place that has always held a special place in my heart,” said Alina Moran, MPA, FACHE, FAB, Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. “Coming back feels like coming home. The dedicated staff and physicians deliver world-class, compassionate care to one of the most diverse communities in the nation. I could not be more excited to rejoin NYC Health + Hospitals and the remarkable Elmhurst Hospital team and build on the extraordinary work they do for our community.”

Moran returns to New York from California, where she most recently worked as a Strategic Advisor at Samaritan, overseeing digital health initiatives for vulnerable populations. Before that, she served as the Chief Executive Officer at California Hospital Medical Center during the Covid pandemic. Under her direction, the hospital managed to care for over 10,000 positive cases while keeping all services fully operational. Her strategic leadership earned national safety recognition and drove the successful completion of a $215 million campus expansion (including Emergency Services, Trauma Services, Women and Children Services), expanding healthcare access to underserved communities.

Before moving west, Moran built her career over more than two decades at NYC Health + Hospitals. As CEO of Metropolitan Hospital for four years, she improved patient experience scores, reduced primary care wait times, and boosted staff engagement. As the health care system’s Chief Patient Growth Officer, she expanded patient census, streamlined online scheduling, and established referral partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations. At Elmhurst Hospital, the hospital she now returns to lead, she served as Chief Financial Officer, improving cash flow by $30 million and spearheading the hospital’s implementation of the Epic electronic health record. She began her journey with the system as Finance Director for Managed Care at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, later rising to Assistant Vice President for Managed Care for the system.

Moran holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Baruch College and a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University. A Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), she was named 2019 Healthcare Executive of the Year by the National Association of Healthcare Executives. Her work has been featured in leading industry publications for achieving measurable healthcare outcomes and advancing health equity in the communities she serves.

Beyond healthcare, Moran is deeply engaged in civic life. She serves as the National Board Chair of the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) and has held positions with the Central City Association and CORO Southern California. She also founded the Rhode Island Political Action Committee and the Brown University Latino Alumni Council.
