New York: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he has been invited by US President Donald Trump to join Gaza’s “Board of Peace" as part of a US-backed and UN-supported plan to demilitarize and rebuild the territory after two years of war between Israel and Hamas.
However, Zelenskyy argued that Ukraine could not envisage working there alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We did receive the invitation; our diplomats are working on it. However, it’s still very hard for me to imagine how we and Russia could be together in any kind of council," he said as quoted by news agency AFP.
His remarks came just after the Kremlin said that Trump invited Putin to join the Gaza Peace Board. “President Putin also received an invitation to join this Board of Peace," spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
The Trump administration has invited political leaders, diplomats and business figures from about 60 countries, including India, Jordan, Canada, Hungary, Vietnam, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Albania and Paraguay, to join the new board, as part of a plan to demilitarise and rebuild the war-torn territory.
