Happy Birthday America!
The America I came to in 1970s was different from the America of today. This was the country where if you had merit you could get ahead, no matter your color, race, gender or origin. If you could make it in the US, you had “arrived”.
Today, merit is still prized highly, but other factors have come into play. I love this country. It has helped me climb the ladder of success career-wise and have a standard of living in safety and comfort, which would not have been possible elsewhere.
Lately, however, Indian origin Americans, successful, highly educated, entrepreneurs - literally model citizens - are resented. The rapport between India and America went through a roller-coaster, following the Pahalgam terror attack. Luckily it is on the upward swing now.
India is rising. Sometimes when a new power emerges, established ones feel threatened, no matter how secure.
Keeping our culture alive is a challenge especially when living in a different social setting. Our children and grandchildren are in a totally different microcosm. Robot-driven and GMO products all around. Manufacturing is no longer part of the US landscape. Our grandchildren don’t need to take driving tests because they will be driven by self-driving vehicles. A surgeon in New York can perform surgery in Toledo with a robot, thus eliminating inexperience and human error.
The future looks promising, but challenging too!
Here’s to another 250 years for America!
Cheers!
