New Delhi: Delivering the keynote address at the ongoing Raisina Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard clarified that “America First does not mean America alone".
Stating that President Donald Trump's America First is similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to India First, Gabbard highlighted the enduring strength of the India-US partnership, emphasizing shared democratic values and a commitment to global peace and stability.
Shedding light on how Trump’s approach is often misinterpreted, Gabbard said: “It shouldn’t be mistaken that our Prez because is calling for America First is an isolationist. That accusation speaks to a deeper misunderstanding or wrong assumption that the only way to engage with other countries is through conflict. He wants a legacy of being a peacemaker and a unifier".
Gabbard said that she expects the India-US partnership, which has been nurtured through bipartisan support in America, to grow under Trump’s leadership. “Ensuring order and stability is critical. Our ability to do so will determine our success in achieving collective goals. However, history has shown that merely calling for peace often invites more attacks, as seen in President Trump’s calls for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war,” she remarked.
