New York: When India’s stars shine on the global stage, many take pride in the connection they share. Sunita Williams and Andy Shenoy are both from India, and their paths have crossed in ways that show how relationships can help build stronger connections between countries.
Andy Shenoy, a director on the board of the United Nations Development Corporation, has spent over twenty years working to strengthen the relationship between India and the United States. He has served four New York state Governors and was a special advisor to the Governor on South Asian affairs. Coming from humble beginnings, Shenoy considers it a blessing to have coordinated meetings with three Indian Prime Ministers, including the current PM Narendra Modi, as well as former PMs Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh, and top U.S. officials at the White House.
One of Mr. Shenoy’s strongest and most enduring friendships is with astronaut Sunita Williams. Over the years, their mutual respect has only grown. As Sunita has become a global icon, Andy’s connection with her shows how personal relationships are important in diplomacy and working together between countries.
With Sunita’s recent return to Earth after an unexpected nine-month mission aboard the International Space Station, Shenoy expressed his joy and relief. "It is a blessing for me to have known her for so long, and I am very happy that she is back safely after such an incredible journey. The whole world prayed for her well-being, and I am so proud of her willpower to remain resilient. Her safe return home is an extraordinary chapter in human space exploration."
In celebration of Sunita Williams’ return, Shenoy is planning to host a special welcome party for the astronaut soon, marking another significant milestone in their long-standing friendship and shared dedication to global progress.
