From Washington DC to Italy, the Indian diaspora observed the ‘International Day of Yoga 2024’, with an emphasis on oneness and harmony inspired by the ancient Indian practice.
New York: The Embassy of India in the US organized its 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2024) celebration at the picturesque Wharf, overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, DC.
Beginning with Indian classical dance performances invoking prayers for learning, the session highlighted this year’s theme of "Yoga for Self and Society”. The programme included elements to popularise inclusion of millets and environment friendly products and practices in daily life.
Addressing the event, Charge d’affaires Ambassador, Sripriya Ranganathan, recalled that recognizing Yoga’s universal appeal, on December 11 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
She noted that since its inception in the Indus Valley Civilization, the timeless practice of Yoga has traveled far and wide and now, hundreds of million people around the world still practice Yoga, after nearly 5,000 years.
Several curtain-raiser events were organized by the Embassy and Consulates across the US with the active participation and support of numerous community organizations and Yoga enthusiasts.
