New York: The Indian diaspora and Americans from across the country are clamoring to join the community reception for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, overwhelming the New York venue's capacity. Huge preparations are on for PM Modi’s community event on September 22 in New York. The venue will be Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum — known for holding large concerts.
The Coliseum has a capacity of about 15,000 and the organizers are trying to increase the audience size by adding temporary seating in what is normally the play area in the middle, according to reports. More than 24,000 members of the Indian diaspora have already signed up for the community event.
Titled ‘Modi and US’, the event is organized by the Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), which uses the motto, "Modi and US, Progress Together”. Indian Americans from at least 42 states are expected to attend the mega event and the response has been particularly strong from the tristate area.
In addition to the remarks by Modi, the event will showcase cultural performances and appearances by prominent Indian Americans in business, science, entertainment, and the arts.
