A month after filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' premiered on Netflix, the streaming giant has renewed the big-budget period drama series for season two. The announcement was made at a grand event held at Carter Road, Mumbai, where a flash mob of 100 dancers performed on a medley of songs from the series. This vibrant performance concluded with the exciting news of the show's renewal.

In the first season, the series starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha, and Sharmin Segal revolved around courtesans who wielded a lot of power and influence during India's freedom struggle.

"I'm blessed by the love and appreciation for 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar'. It's been a joy to see the show resonate with audiences worldwide, and I couldn't have asked for a better partner than Netflix. I'm happy to announce that we'll be back with season 2," Bhansali said in a statement.

Season 2 is set to shift the narrative as the women of Heeramandi move from Lahore to the film industries in Mumbai and Kolkata following the partition. Although they continue their performances, the context changes significantly as they now entertain film producers instead of nawabs.

One of the most anticipated series of 2024, Season 1 of 'Heeramandi' debuted on May 1 and quickly climbed the ranks to become a significant hit. Within its first week, the series appeared on Netflix's worldwide non-English TV chart in 43 countries, becoming the most-viewed Indian series globally on the platform. It has consistently maintained its position at the top of the India Top 10 chart since its launch.

The series has been praised for its drama, lavish sets, and intricately crafted clothes. However, a section of viewers called out the series for romanticizing brothels and historical and linguistic inaccuracies.
