The birth anniversary of the architect of India's Constitution and the crusader against inequality Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was celebrated at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. The Permanent Mission of India to the UN organized the event.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale addressed the function. He said, "Today, the permanent mission of India in New York organized this important function. We are celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Not only all over India, but many countries are celebrating."

India's Permanent Representative at the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, spoke about how Dr. Ambedkar played a key role in the freedom struggle and later went on to become the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

As a gesture of respect, April 14, 2025, has been declared by New York City as Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar Day. Mayor Eric Adams announced it on Ambedkar's 134th birth anniversary.

Adams said, "Generations of people from around the world have crossed oceans seeking new possibilities in New York City. Over time, their contributions have transformed into a vibrant history of bolstering our neighborhoods and enhancing our city's rich cultural tapestry," he said.

The mayor addressed the city's continued efforts to uphold the principles Dr. Ambedkar stood for. He mentioned how events such as this serve to keep his message of justice and equality alive in the community.
