J&K elections: Phase 1 records 61.13% voter turnout

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Assembly elections began on September 18 with polling in 24 constituencies across 7 districts concluding at around 6 PM. As per Election Commission of India data, the overall voting percentage was recorded at 61.13 percent, with Kishtwar district accounting for the highest number of voters.

This is the first Assembly election being held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation in Article 370 and its bifurcation. The last time Assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir was in 2014.

Elections were held across 3,276 polling stations established in 24 assembly constituencies spanning seven districts namely, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Ramban, and Doda. Sixteen of these constituencies fell in the Kashmir Valley while 8 fell in the Jammu region. Polling for the second and third phases will be held on 25 September and 1 October, respectively. The votes will be counted on 8 October 2024.
