Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Odisha at a grand event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and several other top BJP leaders.

Majhi, who was administered the oath of office by Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at Janata Maidan, is notably BJP's first Chief Minister in the state. The BJP stormed to power in the recently-concluded State Assembly elections, ending 24 years of rule of the Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by securing 78 of 147 seats.

BJP leaders KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida were also sworn in as deputy chief ministers of Odisha. Additionally, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena and Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra also took oath as ministers in the Mohan Majhi-led government.

Soon after the swearing-in ceremony was concluded, PM Modi took to X and congratulated Mohan Charan Majhi for taking up the Chief Minister's post. "It's a historic day in Odisha! With the blessings of my sisters and brothers of Odisha, @BJP4Odisha is forming its first-ever government in the state," he said in a post.

Several chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand also attended the event.

Earlier, Majhi, a four-term MLA, said work will begin within 100 days of the formation of the new government to fulfil the promises made in the BJP's manifesto.
