'Dalai's tactics to create Sino-India fissures won't succeed'

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama's recent claim that 'he is a son of India' was aimed at "trapping" New Delhi, the Chinese state media reported on Wednesday, adding that his tactics would not work as both India and China have evolved a "consensus" to develop friendly ties. "There is a key problem which needs to be resolved before the Dalai Lama claimed himself as 'the son of India'. That is no one accepts him as a son either from the government or the locals of India," a write up in the ruling Communist Party mouthpiece People's Daily said.

In India, UK PM tells Pak to stop terror

British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday said Pakistan could not be allowed to harbour militants and promote terror against India, Afghanistan and the rest of the world. Cameron, on his first visit to India after becoming prime minister in May, laid out the basis for a new “enhanced relationship” with India. Apart from Cameron’s own tough talk on terrorism, his business minister Vince Cable announced the UK was prepared to export civil nuclear technology to India, bringing Britain in line with the stance taken by the United States, Russia and France.

Radar glitch mars Day 1 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport

The first day of operations of the new Terminal 3 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport saw an embarrassing glitch in the Air Traffic Control's (ATC) radar system, which went on the blink for 24 minutes. The radar screens went blank between 5.50 pm and 6.14 pm after the software system that displays flight data crashed. ATC officials switched to the backup system but flights were hit.

Air India's Delhi-Tokyo flight AI 307 inaugurated the commercial operations amid a few other minor hiccups such as malfunctioning conveyor belts and elevators.

Saturn’s biggest moon discovered

For the first time, astronomers have discovered Saturn’s biggest moon creating a trail of giant snowballs as big as 12 miles in diameter when it enters the innermost edge of the planet’s ring. The scientists found that the moon, Prometheus, which passes through the innermost edge of the ring in about every 68 days, lifts out ring particles which then begin to clump and take on a life of their own over time.

Effective action required to resolve insurgency in Afghanistan : US

US has said it is difficult to resolve insurgency in Afghanistan without effective action against terrorists across the border in Pakistan. State Department spokesman P J Crowley said during his daily news briefing that he agrees with the remarks of Afghan National Security Advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta, in this regard.

PIO jailed for major shares fraud in UK

An Indian-origin British national has been sentenced to seven years in jail for his involvement in a multi-million pounds fraud that operated through aggressive, high-pressure sale of shares of worthless companies to the old and elderly. Rahul Natwar Patel, 35, who lives in Spain, operated the fraud across several countries along with another British national, David Arthur Vidgeon, 30.
