Tagore's notebook to be auctioned in US today

Rabindranath Tagore's 83-year-old notebook will be auctioned in New York on Tuesday.

Dating back to 1928, the notebook contains dozens of poems and lyrics for songs in Bengali as well as drafts of subsequently published works. The notebook will go under the hammer today and is expected to fetch up to $250,000.

The 204 x 132 centimeter diary was presented by Tagore to a family friend in the mid-1930s and is now being auctioned by the descendants of the original owner.

Last year, 12 paintings by Tagore fetched $2.5 million at another Sotheby's auction. While the manuscript might not sell for this much, it will surely attract a lot of attention.
