Indian community feted at Indian American Night

East Meadow, NY: Indian American Night was organized by the Indian American Forum (IAF) on June 3 at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park here.

This program is part of 2018 summer concert series sponsored by Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums. Indian American Night is a showcase of classical Indian music and folk dances from all regions of India. Nassau County Parks Commissioner Eileen Krieb, Deputy Commissioner Shawn McBride and several elected officials and community leaders were present.

 To observe the International Yoga Day (June 21) yoga and mantra chanting was taught by Ranju Narang.  Jaya Bahadkar Cultural chairperson, presented beautiful cultural program reflecting dances from different parts of India.

On behalf of Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Commissioner Eileen welcomed everyone and commended the Indian American community for their outstanding achievements.

These community members were honored with Nassau County Awards: Harry Aurora, President-CEO, ITutor; Dr Anu Goenka, Director of Brain Tumor Programing of the Dept of Radiation Medicine, Northwell Health; Sunny Thakkar, Radiation Therapist and cultural promoter; Dr Purna Prasad, CTO at Northwell Health; Mrs. Rachna Sabharwal, President Rotary Club of Jericho Sunrise; Ranju Narang, Yoga instructor and Gobind Munjal, President AIA-New York.

Also to be recognized at the event for their achievements were girls team Techno Queens from Jericho Elementary School, and RoboFalcons boys team from Jericho Middle School.
